Reis Magos is one of the least famous forts of Goa and presently in ruins. It is located on the northern bank of river Mandovi. It was originally built by Sultan Adil Shah in 1551. It was annexed by the Portuguese in 1760 to protect their territory against invaders from the neighboring states of Goa. The fort is completely made up of laterite stones with guarding towers all around. The fort was also used as prison for sometime after the Portuguese rule collapsed. The Reis Magos church situated at the base of the fort adds extra beauty to the fort. The fort also gives the calm and serene views of the surroundings making it truly one of the best picnic spots in Goa.
